Abstract
Chlorine dioxide gas dissolved in water is produced by passing a solution
of stabilized chlorine dioxide or a sodium chlorite solution, with or without
added sodium chloride, through an electrolytic cell having an anode and cathode,
in the absence of a semi-permeable membrane but in the presence of a buffer, an
anolyte with a pH below 10 is produced so that disproportination of the ClO2 is
not appreciable.
